TRON: UPRISING Animated Series To Hit Disney XD in 2012

It's no secret that Disney was looking to develop a Tron TV series.  We discussed the news back in February when we didn't know if the series would be animated or live-action. Today, we've learned that the series will indeed be animated, and it will air on Disney XD in the summer of 2012. The new show will be called, Tron: Uprising

The series is being developed by Samurai Jack's Charlie Bean, who will exec produce and direct it. Tron: Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are also working on the project, and will serve as consulting producers.

One of the biggest surprises for me about the series is the talented voice cast they've brought in! The voice cast includes Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen, and Bruce Boxleitner will also reprise his role as Tron!

The series will focus on a character named Beck (Wood), who leads a revolution inside The Grid's computer world.

Disney TV Animation is bringing the project to life, and Disney Channels Worldwide entertainment prexy Gary Marsh called the new show "a culmination of an extraordinary collaboration between Disney Television Animation and our feature film studio."

I've heard this is going to be a very high quality animated series, and I can't wait to see what it's going to look like!

Disney XD previously picked up a seprate 10-part Tron microseries, which will air in fall 2011.
