First BATMAN Comic Book beats First SUPERMAN Comic Book and Sells for Over $1 Million

Comic Book Batman by Joey Paur

Well, Superman didn't hold the record for most expensive comic book sold for very long, earlier this week we reported that Action Comic #1 Sold for $1 million dollars. Today Batman's 1939 Detective Comics #27 sold for $1,075,500 dollars setting a new high record.

I seriously didn't think that the record would be broken so fast. It seems there are a lot of wealthy people in the world prepared to drop that kind of cash for a comic book. Heritage Auction Galleries sold the comic book but we'll never know who ended up buying it. According to Greg Rohan, president of Heritage,

The buyer wanted to be extremely anonymous, but I can say he's a very serious comic book collector and has been since childhood.

He goes on to say that this comic book is one of the nicest copies of the comic they've ever seen. Very few of these comic books are surviving after all of these years, there are only between 50 and 100 that currently exist.
