Potential BLUE BEETLE TV Series Test Footage and Images
Earlier this week we reported that DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns was looking to turn Blue Beetle, a lesser known comic book character, into a TV series. Warner Bros. is looking for a show to replace Smallville once the show ends, and Blue Beetle might just be it. Johns said that he would show a full screen test for the potential TV series at Comic-con this year, but five seconds of the footage has already popped up online in the form or a special effects reel. You can check it out below, the Blue Beetle footage pops up around the 50 second mark.
I'm not sure what to think about this character being turned into a TV series. I honestly don't know that much about him. But Ben P contacted our resident comic book expert Alan Trehern to ask him what he thought, and here's what he had to say regarding the potential live-action series.
I don't like the recent incarnation...so it sounds gay. He gets enough face time on The Brave and the Bold. Bring back Ted Kord!
So there ya have it! Geoff Johns thoughts on the character are a little different, here's what he had to say about adapting Blue Beetle.
I feel very fortunate to have been a part of Blue Beetle’s introduction way back in INFINITE CRISIS. I’ve said it before, but thanks to the BLUE BEETLE series launched by Keith Giffen and John Rogers with a great design by Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes rocks. Great character, great story, great look. He’s already appeared in animation, had action figures and right now he’s on my computer in live-action glory. I have an early special effects test that has been floating around of what his armored scarab-suit could look like. This isn’t final. This isn’t greenlit. It’s only a test that was done. We still have a long way to go to see if we can get this off the ground and a lot of people to jump on board…but check out some stills. Pretty cool, huh? We’ll be bringing this short clip to San Diego Comic-Con and playing it in as many DCU panels as possible so everyone gets a chance to see it.
The Blue Beetle (in the current incarnation) is Jaime Reyes, a teenager who melded with a mystical scarab that turns him into a superhero. The scarab comes from an alien planet and is actually an evil instrument intended to corrupt the user and allow the alien race (The Reach) to take over whatever planet the scarab lands on. After it was blown across the universe in the aftermath of a large battle, it was eventually found by Jaime and embedded itself onto his spine. The scarab gives him the ability to create weapons and technologies from the suit (think Kristianna Loken's TX character from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines).
What are your thought on a potential Blue Beetle TV series?
