David Heyman says Alfonso Cuaron's GRAVITY to begin filming in May

David Heyman has confirmed that Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity will begin filming in the UK this May. The film has had trouble getting off the ground, casting has been somewhat of a revolving door. First, Natalie Portman took over after Angelina Jolie turned down the lead role. Portman dropped ou (most likely because of her pregnancy) and Sandra Bullock signed on. Robert Downey Jr. was set to star in the male lead, but had to drop out for The Avengers. He was replaced by George Clooney four months ago.

There has not been much news about the film until today. Heyman revealed the following details in an interview with Collider. Here is what he had to say: 

I’m doing Gravity with Alfonso Cuaron, which starts the end of May. Which is great. The whole film has been pre-vised and figured out, it’s f**kin’ awesome. I mean, unlike anything you’ve seen in space. It’s just great. He’s a privilege to work with—he’s a real visionary.

…we’re using technology that’s never seen before. This film will be more immersive, I believe, than anything you’ve seen before. You will really feel like you are in space. It will not be an objective view of space, it will be an immersive view of space. And you know as you say, with Children of Men, he loves these long shots. It’s gonna be a really bold, bold film.

Gravity will focus on Bullock's character (and her daughter) as they fight to make it back to Earth after her team is killed by debris from an exploded satellite on a remote space station. Clooney plays the team leader at the space station. I am interested to see Bullock out of her element in a sci-fi setting.

Heyman revealed that the film will not be shot in 3D, but converted and released as a 3D film. He stated that “you can make the 3D in a post process much more easily than if you were shooting all live-action or sitting in a room.” Our past examples of films that have been converted to 3D have not looked good, so lets hope that this looks good. With Heyman and Cuaron involved, I am sure it will.
