CANDY LAND screenwriters envision LORD OF THE RINGS with candy
Earlier we reported that Candy Land was being made into a feature film, and that Kung Fu Panda screenwriters Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger were writing the script. When I first heard about this project I was very skeptical that it could be pulled off. Today some new details have been revealed that may have started to change my opinion. Aibel and Berger told EW that they have ambitious plans saying, “We envision it as Lord of The Rings, but set in a world of candy.”
They go on to say:
“We don’t see it as a movie based on a board game, although it has characters from that world and takes the idea of people finding themselves in a world that happens to be made entirely of candy where there are huge battles going on,” Berger says. “We are going for real comedy, real action, and real emotions at stake.”
It has been ages since I have played the board game. As a recap, the game centers around finding the lost king of Candy Land. The players wind their way through enchanted lands such as Candy Cane Forest and Gum Drop Mountain, see characters such as Princess Frostine and Gramma Nutt as well as the evil Lord Licorice who can make players lose a turn. I can not envision the film being that great, and believe that the LOTR comparison is overly ambitious.
