WICKED LOVELY dropped by Universal Pictures
The feature adaptation of Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely is not happening as soon as expected, if at all. THR reports that Universal has the project into turnaround. As we reported, Mary Harron (American Psycho) was attached to the project which was being produced by Vince Vaughn's Wild West Picture Show Productions.
The studio just pulled the adaptation of Ouija for budgetary concerns. It had McG attached to direct and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes producing. Wiked Lovely has been dropped becasue Universal realized that the project did not suit their needs.
The book series is "a Twilight-esque story set in the secret work of fearies and centers on a teenage girl who can see the hidden faery world. She confronts danger when not only do the faeries discover her ability, but also when one king decides she must be his bride." The script was penned by Caroline Thompson, who wrote Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride.
The producers are currently searchhing for a new home for Wicked Lovely, so it may still make it to the big screen. I would not be surprised that with Twilight ending soon, other studios will be looking to fill the young-adult void. What are your thoughts on this news?
