24 JUMP STREET Has Reportedly Cast Zendaya to Star Alongside Tiffany Haddish
We received news a couple of months ago that Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip, Night School) would be starring in the newest installment/reboot of 21 Jump Street, and at the time, it was thought that Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, Ocean’s 8) would be starring alongside her. Since then, we’ve found that Awkwafina is no longer in talks for whatever reason, possibly because she has signed on to the untitled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel. We now have news that the next Jump Street movie will be entitled 24 Jump Street, and will star Haddish and Zendaya (The Greatest Showman, Spider-Man: Homecoming). I love Awkwafina, and think she would have been hilarious, but I actually think Zendaya is a perfect choice. I think she is funny, but much more understated than Haddish, and looks younger than both the other actresses, so she definitely fits in as an undercover cop.
When I heard the title of the movie, I thought I had maybe missed 23 Jump Street. I knew I had seen 21 and 22, but thought maybe I had been having a baby when 23 came out? But then I read that producer Phil Lord said about 23 Jump Street “they're saving the latter title for a later point in time.” I don’t really know what that means, but good to know I didn’t miss one, and I’m not losing my mind. He added, "we're reserving 23 Jump Street," while confirming 24 Jump Street was in production.
The first two movies were directed by Lord and his long-time directing partner, Chris Miller, but will this time be stepping aside and giving the director title to Rodney Rothman, who was one of the three directors on the now Oscar-winning Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse. Rothman wrote the script along with Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux, sisters who have been writers for Bob’s Burgers.
It sounds like the cast and crew that are on board are totally solid, and I am betting this will be another Jump Street success.
