A New GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Rumor Says The Main Characters Will Be Kids; Will This Be an Amblin-Style Movie?
This has been an exciting week for Ghostbusters fans! We learned that Jason Reitman was set to direct to direct a new sequel that will connect to the first two original films. Then we got an awesome teaser trailer that got us even more pumped up!
Well, now things have seemed to take a turn that maybe some fans aren’t going to initially like to hear. It was previously reported that the director has already started testing teenagers to fill four mystery roles in the movie. Now a new rumor tells us how old these teenagers will be.
I initially thought the ages would range from 16 to 19, but according to this report, the age range is from 12 to 13. The characters will consist of two boys and two girls. This news comes from two separate sources… Birth.Movies.Death. and We Got This Covered. So, there might actually be some truth to this.
There are also some details offered regarding a couple of the characters. One of the boys will be 13 years of age and is “passionate about fantasy and conspiracy theories. Furthermore, he apparently approaches every situation with ‘unbridled excitement for the unknown.’ What’s perhaps most interesting though is that he quite often will narrate life in real time, adding ‘descriptive color’ to the people he meets.”
One of the girl characters is 12 years old and she and this boy quickly become friends. She is said to be an “insanely smart kid. However, she often has a hard time with ‘interpreting and expressing emotions and speaks with a flat delivery that make her observations humorous.’ Though she wants to connect with others, she struggles with interpreting how her family and friends feel and has difficulty sharing her own feelings. Her ‘science acumen’ is said to prove invaluable throughout the story, though.”
When talking about the plot of the film, they report that it will “focus on a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to ‘learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.’”
There’s still no word on if any of the original Ghostbusters cast will show up. Maybe the remaining Ghostbusters will show up in this small town to help them!
This is certainly not what I was expecting from Ghostbusters 3. This is all just a rumor for now so maybe there’s no truth to it. I get that they are looking to pass the torch on to a new generation of younger characters, I just didn’t think it was going to be a kids movie.
I don’t want to lash out and lay into a rant on this because we still don’t know what exactly Reitman is doing with this movie. I’m a huge Ghostbusters fan and I want to trust that Reitman is going to give us a sequel that the fans will be happy with and proud of. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Remember, some of our favorite movies from the 80s featured kids as the main characters. E.T., The Goonies, Explorers, Flight of the Navigator, The Never Ending Story, and more. So maybe this new Ghostbusters movie is looking to capture that same Amblin-style magic. If that’s the case, then there might not be anything to worry about! Just because the main characters might be kids, doesn’t mean it won’t be a good movie. There are lots of great films with kids in the lead roles!
