A24 is Hosting Blueberry Smell-o-Vision Screenings of The Horror Film HERETIC

A24 has announced that they will be hosting special Smell-o-Vision screenings of the Mormon missionary horror movie Heretic.

The announcement reads: "Get tickets for truly *scent-sational* advance screening of Heretic on October 30th, with special guest Hugh Grant. Exclusively at Alamo Drafthouse locations."

It’s pretty fun to see that they are embracing those wild retro unique gimmicky cinematic experiences from the 60s and 70s, which were created by William Castle. The whole thing was meant to immerse the audience in the movie-watching experience.

Smell-o-Vision was one of those things, and the point was to make the theater smell a certain way. Heretic continues this tradition with this fun concept.

It’s explained: "This unique experience will fully immerse audiences in the cinematic journey by activating their sense of smell. A highlight of the film features the delightful aroma of blueberry pie, inviting viewers to savor the scent wafting through the theater during this moment in the film.”

Fans can also look out for exclusive treats and scratch-and-sniff cards - allowing them to participate in the experience and enjoy the aroma during this pivotal scene.

The movie stars Hugh Grant (D&D: Honor Among Thieves), who has been getting a lot of praise for his performance in this movie. He is joined by Chloe East (The Fabelmans) and Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets).

In the film, the two Mormon sister missionaries attempt to convert a man who turns out to be far more sinister than they could have anticipated.

The official logline reads: “Two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed, becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.”

Heretic comes from A Quiet Place writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who wrote the script and will direct the film.

A24 will release Heretic in theaters on November 15, 2024.
