Aaron Taylor-Johnson Says KRAVEN THE HUNTER Violent Action Scenes "Pushed the Boundaries"

Kraven the Hunter is going to go all out on the brutal and bloody violence, and apparently it earns its R-rating with the savageness of the action scenes.

During an interview with GamesRadar+, director J.C. Chandor and star Aaron Taylor-Johnson talked about the intense action scenes. Chandor said:

"The stunts needed to be spectacular. There was a sort of a relentlessness to the character that we both picked up on. He just never seems to give in. I really wanted the stunts, right from the beginning of designing them, to have a reality to them.

“You can kind of get away with doing anything right now with the technology that we have, so it's about almost limiting what the character can do. And then you've got this guy [referring to Taylor-Johnson].

“He's just a physically gifted performer. That's a lump of clay that you can do a lot of pretty cool stuff with!"

Taylor-Johnson then added: “I think also a hard R [rating] meant that we didn't need to hold back. We were trying to fit it in that box and then it was just like, we've got to unleash this character and do him justice.

“They allowed us to make it an R, and we definitely pushed the boundaries!"

Now, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… it’s not the rating or how brutal action scenes are that make a movie good. It’s all about the strength of the script and story they are telling.

Hopefully, the creative team manages to tell a decent story. The director does believe that he’s crafted a “good damn story”, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel's most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.

Kraven the Hunter will premiere exclusively in theaters on December 13th, 2024.
