Adam Driver’s Rumored MCU X-Men Role Might Not Be Magneto or Mister Sinister After All

The rumors surrounding Marvel's upcoming X-Men reboot just took another interesting turn, and if the latest report is accurate, Adam Driver may be headed for a role that fans aren’t expecting.

When Driver's name first started circulating in connection with Marvel Studios' mutant franchise, the popular assumption was that he'd be stepping into the shoes of Magneto.

More recently, those rumors shifted toward the classic comic book villain Mister Sinister, a character fans have been hoping to see properly adapted on the big screen for years.

Now, though, a new report claims Marvel could have something completely different in mind. According to Nexus Point News, Driver is now rumored to be playing William Stryker in the MCU's X-Men reboot.

For longtime X-Men fans, Stryker is one of the most infamous human enemies the mutants have ever faced. While he's often portrayed differently depending on the version of the story, he's typically an anti-mutant extremist whose hatred drives many of the franchise's darkest moments.

In the comics, Stryker is both a military officer and a religious leader, using his influence to wage war against mutants. He's also deeply tied to Wolverine's history, making him one of the defining villains in Logan's story.

Of course, this wouldn't be the character's first appearance on the big screen. Stryker played major roles throughout 20th Century Fox's X-Men films, so if this rumor turns out to be true, Marvel would be revisiting familiar territory instead of introducing a major villain like Mister Sinister.

Still, Driver has shown more than once that he can bring incredible intensity to morally complicated antagonists. The report also includes another interesting piece of casting speculation.

It claims Tramell Tillman is expected to reprise his role as William Metzger, another anti-mutant villain. The character will reportedly make his debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day before carrying over into the X-Men reboot.

There's also continued speculation surrounding Sadie Sink, who remains rumored to be playing Jean Grey. While her role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day still hasn't been confirmed, the report suggests she could return as Jean in the X-Men film as well.

As exciting as all of this sounds, it's worth remembering that none of these casting reports have been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios. The project's director has also indicated that these reports are only rumors, so fans should treat them accordingly until Marvel makes an official announcement.

The MCU's X-Men reboot is still in the early stages of production, with its current release date set for May 5, 2028.

Whether Driver ends up playing Magneto, Mister Sinister, William Stryker, or someone else entirely, he'll certainly remain one of the most closely watched names attached to the project until Marvel finally reveals its cast.
