Adam Sandler Will Make Four More Movies For Netflix

Remember that time Adam Sandler said that if he didn’t get a Best Actor award nomination he would make a movie so bad on purpose for revenge? Well, the actor has extended his deal with Netflix and will make four more films for them under his Happy Madison Productions, so he has four upcoming chances to make good on that promise.

In the announcement, Netflix noted that Sandler’s film Murder Mystery was the most popular title on Netflix last year. They also say that subscribers have spent two billion hours watching Sandler’s films since 2015, when The Ridiculous 6 premiered.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer said in a statement:

“Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him. They love his stories and his humor, as we saw with ‘Murder Mystery.’ So I could not be more excited to extend our partnership with Adam and the Happy Madison team and deliver more laughs around the world.”

Netflix didn’t reveal any details for the four new films covered in the new deal, but we’ll eventually find out. There is one film that was previously announced that isn’t part of this new deal titled Hubie Halloween. It stars Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta, Maya Rudolph, Rob Schneider and Shaquille O’Neal. The prior deal also covered an animated feature film that Sandler will write, produce and star in as a voice actor.

For the most part, I’ve enjoyed the films that Sandler has made for Netflix. There have been some duds, but I would really like to see more great films from the actor. I imagine Netflix isn’t looking for those kinds of films from him, though. They just want those silly comedies that appeal to the masses. If they are seeing success with those, they don’t want to switch things up.
