Adria Arjona to Play Martine Bancroft in MORBIUS THE LIVING VAMPIRE Film
Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising) is in talks to join Jared Leto in Sony Pictures big screen adaptation of Marvel’s Morbius The Living Vampire.
Leto will play Morbius, a.k.a. Dr. Michael Morbius, "a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself to disastrous results. Instead of being cured, he became afflicted with a condition that was a form of vampirism — the thirst for blood, along with fangs and super strength — and fought Spider-Man. Over time, however, he became a slightly heroic figure in his own right and even headlined his own comic book titles."
Arjona will take on the lead female role of Martine Bancroft in the film. In the comics, she is engaged to the Morbius before he accidentally turns himself into a vampire. As you’d expect, she ends up becoming a potential victim as Morbius learns to cope with his insatiable bloodlust.
Bancroft was first introduced in 1971’s The Amazing Spider-Man #102, and she has had a long and twisted history. It was previously reported:
Though she was his fiancee, Bancroft also became one of Morbius’ first victims and became a vampire herself. She’s been dead and resurrected more than once and has some interesting connections to some characters that we think Sony might be able to use should the decide to go forward with additional Morbius‘ films.
The movie has been described as a horror action story that will follow Morbius, who is “disgusted by his own bloodlust, so he chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life." As I previously mentioned, it’s going to be like a vampire version of Dexter.
The film will be directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Life). The script is being written by Lost in Space scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
