After Months of Destroying Their Library, HBO Max Is Raising Prices
The Warner Bros. and Discovery merger has really pissed me off. First, they cancel a ton of projects and use them for write offs so that no one can ever enjoy them. Then, they write off a bunch of their shows, particularly animated shows like Infinity Train, so that no one can enjoy them either. They continued to remove items from HBO Max like Sesame Street and Looney Tunes! They then had the nerve to come out and say they’re done canceling and writing off projects as if we’d believe them. Now, they have the gall to increase the price of HBO Max subscriptions.
As of January 2, you must pay $15.99 plus taxes in the United States in order to use HBO Max. The reason given? “This price increase of one dollar will allow us to continue to invest in providing even more culture-defining programming and improving our customer experience for all users.” I call 100% bullcrap on this! You have been slashing programming left and right and now you expect me to believe you’ll be investing in programming and so you need more money? Screw that! You have literally reduced the amount of content you offer and now want more money?
A while ago I wrote about some of the problems in the entertainment industry including mergers like this. In there, I shared a video of Adam Conover testifying about these mergers and the problem they are and how they negatively impact consumers as well as creators. This is more proof of this.
The one thing I will give them credit for is that this is the first time that HBO Max’s price has increased since launch. However, to have this after a whirlwind of absolute garbage months just feels like rubbing salt in the wound.
