AHSOKA Season 2 Concept Art Teases an All-Out War With Thrawn
Star Wars fans have been waiting a long time to see what happens next in Ahsoka, and some newly surfaced Season 2 concept art makes it look like the fight against Grand Admiral Thrawn is about to get much bigger.
Ahsoka Season 2 is set to arrive on Disney+ in January, roughly three and a half years after the first season debuted. After a lengthy stretch without much to go on, Lucasfilm has finally started teasing the new season, and the footage and artwork we've seen so far point to a much larger conflict.
The first Ahsoka Season 2 trailer already confirmed that Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker, while Ariana Greenblatt is back as young Ahsoka Tano for more Clone Wars-era flashbacks.
The trailer also showed Eman Esfandi returning as Ezra Bridger alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, with the two preparing to confront Thrawn. This time, they’ll have another familiar member of the Star Wars Rebels crew fighting alongside them as Zeb finally joins the action.
Now we have another interesting look at Season 2 thanks to concept art recently shared on Instagram by ilikethatwookie, and these images suggest the confrontation with Thrawn could turn into a massive battle.
One of the most interesting pieces features Thrawn’s golden-faced trooper Enoch surveying what appears to be a battlefield.
Ezra, Hera, and Chopper can seemingly be spotted hiding nearby with other fighters, and the scale of the image makes this look like something much larger than a small Rebel-style mission against Imperial remnants.
It also looks like Ezra is going to have plenty of opportunities to show how much he's grown. The character returned in Season 1 after years away, and putting him directly into the fight against Thrawn opens the door for the Jedi to unleash more of his Force abilities and lightsaber skills.
Of course, concept art doesn’t guarantee that every image or idea will appear exactly as depicted in the finished series. These pieces are used to explore environments, characters, scale, action, and visual ideas during production. Still, seeing imagery this war-heavy gives us an interesting indication of what the creative team has been exploring for Season 2.
Thrawn is one of Star Wars’ great military strategists, and Season 1 spent plenty of time establishing just how dangerous his return could be. Now that he’s back, it looks like Dave Filoni is ready to show what happens when Thrawn gets the chance to wage war.
That also means Ezra, Hera, Chopper, Zeb, and the rest of the heroes could be facing one hell of a fight. I can’t wait to see how this story continues to play out!
