Alden Ehrenreich Has “No Idea” If He’ll Ever Return as Han Solo After SOLO

Solo: A Star Wars Story was supposed to kick off a new run of adventures for a younger Han Solo. Instead, the movie came and went in 2018, and Alden Ehrenreich has been waiting nearly a decade to find out if Lucasfilm will ever hand him the keys to the Millennium Falcon again.

At this point, Ehrenreich doesn’t seem to know any more than the rest of us. The actor took on the daunting job of playing a younger version of Harrison Ford’s iconic smuggler in Solo, a prequel exploring Han’s early days alongside Chewbacca and his first encounters with characters such as Lando Calrissian.

The movie earned mixed reactions from Star Wars fans. Critics were somewhat kinder, and I loved the film, but it currently sits at 69% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it failed to make the impact Lucasfilm was hoping for. Plans for more movies never materialized, despite Ehrenreich originally signing on for three films.

During a recent interview with IndieWire, Ehrenreich was confronted with a pretty confident prediction from the interviewer: “In your life, you will play Han Solo again.”

His response was about as noncommittal as it gets: “No idea.”

The interviewer then brought up Andrew Garfield’s surprise return as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, suggesting Ehrenreich could eventually find himself in a similar situation.

He responded: “Oh, interesting. We'll see.”

Obviously, he knows nothing, and I seriously doubt there’s a secret Han Solo project is sitting on Lucasfilm’s calendar. It also doesn’t sound like Ehrenreich is particularly eager to start campaigning for one.

There is at least one Star Wars project where his Han could naturally appear. Donald Glover has been developing a Lando movie after playing the younger Lando Calrissian in Solo. Unfortunately, that project appears to have stalled, with no significant recent updates on its status.

While I liked what Ehrenreich brought to the role, I think it’s safe to say that we’ll never see him in the role of Han Solo again. I’ll be shocked if Lucasfilm brought him back.

Considering how much the reaction to Solo has softened over the years, it would be fun to see Ehrenreich get another shot at the character.

The Star Wars movie that is definitely moving forward is Star Wars: Starfighter. Shawn Levy directed the film with Ryan Gosling starring, and production has already wrapped. A teaser has also been screened privately at D23, and it looks awesome!

Before that arrives, fans will be heading back to the galaxy far, far away with Ahsoka Season 2.
