Alec Baldwin To Play Thomas Wayne in DC's JOKER Film
Alec Baldwin is the latest big actor to join director Todd Phillips’ Joker movie at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. According to Deadline, Baldwin will take on the role of Thomas Wayne the father of Bruce Wayne. That's a pretty interesting and unexpected casting choice for the character!
With Baldwin's older age, how old would that make Bruce Wayne in this film? Late teens early twenties? It will be interesting to see if they even decide to include him. It was previously reported that Thomas Wayne would be a "cheesy, tanned and rich-looking" 60-year-old man. So I guess Baldwin will pretty much be bringing his SNL version of Donald Trump to the film.
Baldwin joins a growing cast of actors that that includes Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, and Zazie Beetz. De Niro will play a reporter; Beetz will play a single mother who catches the attention of the Joker prior to his transformation the villain; and Conroy will play Joker's mother, Penny.
Phillips is directing the film from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver. The studio has described the story as being an "exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale."
Joker is "meant to be different from other comic book superhero movies". The story is also said to "delve into what it took for the Joker to become a mastermind criminal" and rumor has it that the film story was inspired by The Killing Joke and that it revolve around a failed comedian who ends up becoming a criminal.
Joker is due to begin shooting September in New York. The studio has set an October 4th, 2019 release date. For more information on the film, you can click here.
