ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Producer Jon Landau is Pushing For That Sequel The Fans Want
Producer James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel was a hell of a cool movie! Fans have been hoping that one day we might see a sequel, after all, the first movie set up the story to continue and I would love to see what happens next!
With Disney now the owners of Fox, a sequel seems like it would be less likely, but producer Jon Landau recently shared a photo on Instagram where he is clearly pushing for a sequel! In the photo, the producer is seen wearing an Alita shirt the says, "Wash Your Hands. I Want A Sequel.” He also included the following note:
“Here’s to the The Alita Army and all of the fans of Alita: Battle Angel. Hope you are staying healthy and safe.”
When previously talking about the plans for the sequels, Rodriguez said that Cameron wrote up 1,000 pages of notes for him that spanned the course of a trilogy of films. So, they knew exactly where they wanted the story to lead.
The film’s star, Christoph Waltz, opened up about the possibility of returning for a sequel and he said, “Of course!”
“But, you know, I’m as wise as you are. I haven’t heard anything and I’m a little disappointed and surprised that I haven’t heard a thing so far, because I know that it has followers. I know that people liked it and aside from what others said, I loved it and I liked working on it and I liked the result. You know, it was Fox and Fox doesn’t exist anymore. Now it’s Disney. Maybe it doesn’t fit into the Disneyfication, but I have no clue. I have no clue. Maybe they’re working on something and I wouldn’t be the first person to hear, but meanwhile, I haven’t heard anything.”
I hope that one day we do get a sequel to the movie. Maybe Disney will surprise me and pull the trigger on it.
