All Plans For A BARBIE Movie Are Reportedly Dead

After a few failed attempts to get something going behind-the-scenes, Comicbook.com reported Sony has removed the Barbie movie from its release calendar. The studio has been trying to get the film going since 2014, and at one time had Amy Schumer attached to star.

That version of the movie was going to take the classic Barbie mythology and put a contemporary spin on the toy with an emphasis on feminism and identity. Schumer ended up dropping out of the project due to "scheduling conflicts."

Barbie’s toy company Mattel isn’t giving up hope that a film could happen, It’s already been reported that Mattel has approached Warner Bros to see if they want to take a shot at making a Barbie film. In this version Margot Robbie would apparently be the new Barbie, which sounds almost too good to be true.
