Amazon Cancels A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN and THE PERIPHERAL Despite Season 2 Renewals
Amazon has canceled two of its popular shows despite the fact that they were both renewed for a second season. A League of Their Own and the sci-fi series The Peripheral will not be moving forward with their new seasons.
According to sources the shows being scrapped are a casualty of Hollywood’s ongoing writers and actors strikes. Variety reports, “With Hollywood’s writers and actors still on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), there was no hope of production beginning on Season 2 any time soon.”
A League of Their Own was inspired by the classic film of the same name directed by Penny Marshall and starred Abbi Jacobson, D’Arcy Carden, Chante Adams, Melanie Field and Kate Berlant. The series followed “an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it.”
The Peripheral was based on the William Gibson novel of the same name, and it starred Chloë Grace Moretz and hailed from executive producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan. The story “centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed. She has no future; until the future comes calling for her.”
I’m especially bummed out to hear The Peripheral was canceled. I was really into that show and I was very much looking forward to Season 2. It’s a shame that it ended up being scrapped under the circumstances.
