Amazon MGM Teases a "Fresh, Exotic New" JAMES BOND Movie

The next James Bond film is officially in motion and while we still don’t know who’ll be suiting up as 007, Amazon MGM just gave fans a small but interesting tease of what’s to come.

During their CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas, Amazon MGM teased their big plans for Britain’s most famous spy. Though they didn’t reveal any major plot details (or the next Bond actor), the studio said the next chapter of Bond is going to look and feel different.

“We are committed to honoring the legacy of this iconic character while bringing a fresh, exotic new chapter to audiences around the world alongside Amy [Pascal] and David [Heyman],” said Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll from the stage at Caesars Palace.

“They’re both in London getting started and couldn’t be here tonight, but we wanted to thank them for what we know to make an incredible partnership.”

This marks a major shift in the franchise's direction. Earlier this year, longtime Bond gatekeepers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson stepped back from creative control, which was a surprising move considering they’ve steered the ship for decades.

While they’re still co-owners of the IP, the reins have now been handed to Amazon MGM, which teamed up with Broccoli and Wilson to form a joint venture overseeing Bond’s future.

Amy Pascal and David Heyman were then hired last week to lead the next Bond film and the future of the franhchise.

“James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in the history of cinema,” Pascal and Heyman said in a joint statement.

“We are humbled to follow in the footsteps of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson who made so many extraordinary films and honored and excited to keep the spirit of Bond very much alive as he embarks on his next adventure.”

Amazon’s acquisition of MGM for $8.5 billion in 2021 gave the company distribution rights for the entire Bond catalog, but up until now, they’ve been more of a silent partner. That’s clearly changed.

With creative power now fully in play, the wheels are officially turning in London. Whether that “fresh, exotic” promise means a new tone or a reinvention of the character remains to be seen, but Bond is going to make a big come back, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this all comes together.
