Amazon Prime’s LIFE IS STRANGE Series Reportedly Finds Its Max Caulfield
Amazon Prime Video’s long-gestating adaptation of Life Is Strange has stayed quiet since it was first announced, but a new report finally gives fans something real to chew on.
According to multiple sources, the series may have locked in its lead, and it’s a casting choice that already has people paying attention.
A report from The InSneider, which has since been echoed by several outlets, says that Maisy Stella has been cast as the lead in Amazon’s live-action take on Life Is Strange. While the report doesn’t directly name the character, the assumption is straightforward.
The first game centers entirely on Max Caulfield, making her the clear focal point for any adaptation that starts at the beginning.
Stella is no stranger to emotionally driven storytelling. She’s widely known for playing Daphne on Nashville and recently earned serious attention for her performance in My Old Ass, which picked up multiple awards including a Critics’ Choice win for Best Young Actor or Actress.
If this casting sticks, it suggests Amazon is leaning into a performer who can handle quiet moments, heavy emotional beats, and character-driven drama, which is exactly what Life Is Strange lives and dies on.
Details about the series itself are still thin. What is confirmed is that the show is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios, with Charlie Covell set to direct. Covell is best known as the creator and writer of Netflix’s Kaos, a project praised for its surreal tone and character-first approach.
The Life Is Strange franchise itself kicked off in 2015 and quickly became a standout thanks to its story-heavy design and player-driven decisions. The game follows Max, a photography student who discovers she can rewind time, giving players the power to revisit moments and reshape outcomes.
That mechanic, paired with grounded characters and tough choices, helped the series grow into multiple sequels, prequels, DLC expansions, and even comic and novel spin-offs.
The TV adaptation has been in the works for a long time. It was first envisioned back in 2016 and bounced between creative teams before finally landing at Amazon in September 2025. With a reported lead now in place, it feels like the project is finally moving forward in a meaningful way.
Adding to the excitement, Square Enix is also reportedly developing a new game that brings Max back together with Chloe Price. Titled Life Is Strange: Reunion, the project hasn’t been officially revealed yet, but the timing couldn’t be better if Amazon is planning to reintroduce these characters to a much wider audience.
For now, Amazon hasn’t commented on the casting, but if Maisy Stella really is stepping into Max Caulfield’s shoes, this adaptation might finally be finding its footing.
