AMC is Planning For at Least Another Decade of THE WALKING DEAD
AMC has no intention of slowing down with The Walking Dead franchise. In fact, that are planning on exploring this zombie-apocalypse for at least another ten years! While talking to THR, AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan had this to say:
“The Walking Dead is a universe…and we have a plan to manage over the next decade, plus. That plan is a careful plan to respect the world of the fans of that world.”
One top of the original series and Fear The Walking Dead, it’s already been revealed that there’s another spinoff in the works. Scott Gimple said he’s “working on something to announce," and the thing that he's developing will affect "the past, present, and future of the universe."
It would be pretty cool if one of these Walking Dead projects their working on ends up being a movie or something. The question is, can The Walking Dead franchise be stretched out for another ten years? I’d say yes, as long as they can continue to tell good stories that keep things fresh and interesting.
Robert Kirkman’s comic book series offers many years worth of stories to tell and characters to explore. Then, of course, branching off into other spinoffs will keep the series alive as well. I could see them have a spinoff for certain characters from the original series. Hell, what if they decide not to kill off Rick Grimes, but instead give him his own spinoff series!? Just because he’s leaving The Walking Dead series, doesn’t mean they are going to kill him off.
I’m really curious to see how The Walking Dead Season 9 plays out and how exactly they handle the characters, especially Rick and Maggie because they are leaving the show.
The Walking Dead is still one of the most popular shows on TV, but do you think it will actually last another ten years? Do you hope that it does?
