Andrew Garfield Has "No Plans" to Play Spider-Man Again But Knows Everyone Will Call Him "a Liar"

Marvel fans have been hoping that one day we will see Andrew Garfield back in the role of Spider-Man again after his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But, Garfield says that he has no plans to return to the role.

In a recent interview during 28th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, the actor was asked about returning he said, “No plans, that’s the truth.” But, Garfield also realizes that no one is going to believe him because of all the lies and denials leading up to the release of No Way Home. He says, “Everyone’s gonna call me a liar for the rest of my life. I’m the boy who cried wolf.” It’s true!

Tik Tik Boom director Lin-Manuel Miranda also shared a story about Garfield trying to lie to him about his involvement in No Way Home and how he was a bid liar:

“To his credit, he never said it to me. He always denied it, but I was there the day it leaked. He was on my set in November when it leaked that he was in talks and I quietly went up to him and said, ‘Bro, are you in the new ‘Spider-Man?” and he went, ‘Shut up, shut up.’ It was the worst acting I’d ever seen him do. And I went, ‘He’s gotta practice that, that denial,’ and he got very good at it, but I was there when he first workshopped it.”

Garfield previously said that he hoped to have the opportunity to play Spider-Man again, and when previously asked if he would ever suit up again, he said:

"Never say never. It's a character that's always going to be so meaningful to me, and so beautiful to me and again, it comes back to service. I think if there's a way, because that's what that character is all about, he's all about serving the greater good and serving his fellow people, serving humanity and all life."

"So, if there's a way for me to continue to add to the legacy of that character in a way that feels like it's of service to an audience, of service to the themes that [co-creator] Stan Lee injected that character with," Garfield said, "I'm open, of course, I'm very, very open, but it would have to be very, very special. It would have to be very, very meaningful and fun, and joyful, like doing No Way Home was."

While Garfield says he currently has no plans to play the character again, that could change if Marvel and Sony ever decided to approach him for an idea they have. That’s something we’ll just have to wait and see about. I hope that we do get to see him in play Spider-Man again!
