Andy Bean Will Take on The Lead Role of Alec Holland in DC's SWAMP THING

The search is over for an actor to take on the role of Alec Holland a.k.a. Swamp Thing in DC Universe’s upcoming Swamp Thing series.

Alec Holland will be played by Andy Bean (It: Chapter 2) and Derek Mears (Friday the 13th) has been confirmed to be playing the actual Swamp Thing creature.

Alec Holland, is described as a “passionate biologist who finds himself in nightmarish circumstances as he realizes that the bizarre disease affecting townspeople may have come as a result of his work in the swamp. This discovery that leads him to confront dark swamp forces which swallow him up, only to emerge as the hero known as Swamp Thing.”

After he is transformed into the Swamp Thing creature, he will be “struggling to hold onto his human identity. He quickly learns that he must embrace his new mutant form and defend the town against the perils of the swamp from whence he came.”

The actors join Will Patton (We Are The Titans, Halloween) as Avery Sunderland alongside Virginia Madsen (Sideways), who is playing his wife Maria Sunderland. The series also stars Crystal Reed (Gotham) as Abby and Maria Sten (Straight Outta ComptonChannel Zero) as her friend Liz Tremayne.

Swamp Thing will follow "CDC researcher Abby Arcane, who returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. She develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

James Wan is producing Swamp Thing for DC Universe under his Atomic Monster banner. The series will be written by Mark Verheiden and Gary DaubermanSwamp Thing is scheduled for release in 2019 on DC Universe and the pilot episode is being directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld).
