SWAMP THING Casts FRIDAY THE 13TH Actor Derek Mears To Play The Creature

The Swamp Thing series news has been rolling in all week! First we learned that Crystal Reed was cast as Abby Arcane, then it was reported that Maria Sten would be playing Liz Tremayne. The most exciting news, though, was that the series would feature hard R content, be inspired by Alan Moore’s comic run, and feature a practical suit instead of CGI to bring the creature to life.

Well, now we know who will be the actor wearing that Swamp Thing suit. According to Splash News, Derek Mears, who played Jason Voorhees in the Friday The 13th reboot, is going to to play the creature Swamp Thing in the series. He will not be playing Dr. Alec Holland in the series. That role has yet to be cast. When talking about the suit, writer Gary Dauberman said:

"Then of course it allows us, Swamp Thing himself looks incredible what Justin Raleigh and the guys over at Fractured are doing with the suit. So it’s going to look amazing and less of the 'man in suit' that you’ve seen in the movie and the other TV show."

Mears has definitely got the body build for the character. After all, the guy is a 6′ 5″. He also played Hawes in Hatchet III and appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Flash.

Swamp Thing will follow "CDC researcher Abby Arcane, who returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. She develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

James Wan is bringing Swamp Thing to the streaming service under his Atomic Monster banner. The series will be written by Mark Verheiden and Gary DaubermanSwamp Thing is scheduled for release in 2019 on DC Universe and the pilot episode is being directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld).

Series is set to start filming in the Fall over at Wilmington, NC.
