Anne Hathaway Reportedly Eyes a Major Role in Marvel’s Mutant Saga

Anne Hathaway is reportedly in talks to join the Marvel Studios’ next big era. While she recently passed on a role tied to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it sounds like something much bigger may be on the table as Marvel gears up for its long-anticipated Mutant Saga.

According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, “After rejecting a role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Anne Hathaway is now in talks for a MAJOR role in the MCU’s next saga.”

If that pans out, Hathaway wouldn’t just be dipping her toes into Marvel. She’d be stepping into a central position as the studio pivots into its X-Men-driven future.

Hathaway was previously linked to a villain role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but that opportunity didn’t stick. Industry insider Jeff Sneider shared some details on what went down, saying, “Those were like legit rumours, and I’d heard that basically Anne Hathaway passed, and… Sarah Snook passed.”

He went on to explain how the role itself may have shifted during development: “the older female villain,” but after both actresses stepped away, “maybe they rewrote it, made it a smaller part, got an older man to play it instead.”

Instead of playing in Spider-Man’s sandbox, Hathaway could now be heading into something far more expansive. Marvel Studios is setting the stage for its Mutant Saga following Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, marking a major transition for the franchise.

The focus is expected to shift toward the X-Men, with a storyline that reportedly centers on Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops, and the larger Summers family.

That opens the door to some heavy hitters. Characters like Jean Grey, Havok, and Vulcan are expected to play key roles, with classic villains like Mister Sinister potentially waiting in the wings.

If Hathaway lands a part in this corner of the MCU, she could be stepping into one of the most important and exciting story arcs Marvel has planned in years.

Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts*, is attached to helm an upcoming X-Men film. That project will likely serve as a major launch point for the Mutant Saga, and casting choices like Hathaway could signal just how seriously Marvel is approaching this next phase.

For now, nothing has been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, and talks are still ongoing. But if this deal comes together, Hathaway joining the MCU could be one of those casting moves that instantly raises the stakes.
