Another BLAIR WITCH PROJECT Film Is in the Works with Director Oliver Park

The Blair Witch Project franchise is going to live on with a new installment of the found footage horror series that will be directed by Oliver Park (The Offering). The news comes from Production Weekly, and they say that Lionsgate is reportedly targeting a late summer/fall shoot.

The film is being produced by Haxan Films, which is the production company that was behind the original Blair Witch Project, and both Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, the writers and directors of the original movie, are listed as producers.

It’s interesting that Hollywood keeps trying to force this franchise on us. The first movie was Lightning in a Bottle that they will never be able to recapture, especially with how they keep handling it. There have already been two sequels with Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 in 2000 and Adam Winger’s Blair Witch in 2016. Neither one of those movies did very well at the box office.

While I do think there’s a cool way to handle this franchise, I just don’t think the producers or creative team will ever do it. I’ve always been interested in the Blair Witch lore, which centers on Elly Kedward, who terrorized the town of Blair, now Burkittsville, during the late 1700's and was executed for her crimes. The following year, her accusers as well as many of the town's children disappeared without explanation, and as a result the town was abandoned.

If they are making another Blair Witch movie, they should tell that story!
