Another "I Know Who The Next Batman Is" Rumor Has Hit the Internet... But It's a Scoopless Scoop

Apparently we're doing this again. A new rumor is making the rounds claiming that DC Studios is getting closer to casting Batman for the DC Universe, but instead of actually telling us who might be wearing the cape and cowl, we're getting another round of vague teases. And honestly, this kind of reporting drives me nuts.

Earlier this week, YouTuber John Campea got DC fans talking after saying he believes DC Studios has already found its new Batman and that he knows who the actor is. Sounds like a huge scoop, right? Except... he wouldn't reveal the name.

Naturally, fans immediately started trying to connect the dots. One of the names that quickly floated to the top was Tom Brittney, who was reportedly one of the actors in contention to play Superman before David Corenswet ultimately landed the role.

Now Campea has shifted his story a bit. Instead of saying the role is locked down, he's now claiming there are actually three actors in the mix.

According to him, there's one "primary" choice along with two others that he "knows they have talked to." He also says the actor isn't someone he was expecting.

Campea adds that he'll reveal the name if he can get a second source to confirm it, and he also believes this mystery actor would make a good Batman.

And this is where I check out. Look, if he genuinely has solid information, awesome. Break the story. That's what entertainment reporting is all about. But if you're not willing to actually share the information, then why tease it?

Seriously. Anyone with a platform can jump online and say, "I know who Batman is, but I'm not telling you." Hell, I could do that. I could claim I know there are people in talks to play Batman and then refuse to name them. It's an easy way to get everyone speculating and clicking, but I won't because I respect our audience.

If you're waiting for another source to confirm it, then wait until you have that confirmation before announcing that you know something. Otherwise, all you've really done is tell everyone you have a secret. That's not a scoop. That's bait.

As for whether there's actually something to this rumor, obviously it's possible DC Studios has started conversations with actors. James Gunn previously acknowledged that The Brave and the Bold isn't currently at the top of the studio's priority list because finding the right approach to Batman has proven challenging.

That doesn't mean casting discussions aren't happening behind the scenes. Bruce Wayne could easily appear somewhere else in the DCU before The Brave and the Bold even moves into full production, so having conversations with potential actors now wouldn't be surprising.

Still, until someone actually puts a name on the table, this rumor doesn't really move the conversation forward. Right now, we're left with three mystery actors, zero actual names, and another reminder that teasing information isn't nearly as interesting as reporting it.

When someone finally has something real to share, I'll happily listen. Until then, this feels like a whole lot of nothing wrapped up as something.
