ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Director Says It Will Take a "Hard Left Turn" and be More Epic
I got to see the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at Comic-Con this past weekend, and this is going to be a very different kind of Ant-Man movie, and it looks like a blast! The film is going to take audiences on a wild ride in the Quantum Realm.
According to director Peyton Reed, the movie is set to be bigger and more epic than the films that came before. He explained to Entertainment Weekly:
"We were thrilled to get to do a third Ant-Man movie and do a trilogy. And we knew if we were going to do that we wanted to do some things differently. We really wanted to take a hard left turn and make a movie that was even more epic, but still progress the story of these family dynamics and everything that's going on between Scott and Hope and Cassie."
The heroes of the story - Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Hope van Dyne's Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) will be facing off with an extremely dangerous villain, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). When talking about that villain, Reed said:
"We also knew that we wanted to put our heroes up against a very, very formidable opponent. I grew up reading the comics and I knew the character of Kang the Conqueror, who's one of the big, big bad characters in the comics, so to be able to put up our heroes against Kang the Conqueror was a huge thing for us. We went big and we also went small."
The movie will also introduce MODOK in the film, and he will be sporting an interesting and cool metallic look. The trailer we were shown features the character being sucked into the Quantum Realm, where Kang warns them that they're in over their heads. They will be joined by Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas).
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released on February 17th, 2023.
