Anthony Russo Says Steve and Peggy’s New AVENGERS: ENDGAME Scene is “Where Doomsday Is Born”
Avengers: Endgame Encore is now playing around the world, and the re-release includes new bonus footage that connects Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter directly to Avengers: Doomsday.
Co-director Anthony Russo has now explained why the added scene matters, revealing that this new chapter in Steve’s story is the point where “Doomsday is born.”

The original Endgame closed with Steve Rogers finally getting the life he wanted, dancing with Peggy Carter before the credits rolled. Endgame Encore pushes the story one step further.
The new footage shows Loki arriving at Steve and Peggy’s home, with Steve staying out of sight around the corner. Peggy answers the door and asks, "Can I help you?"
Loki, now working with the TVA, enters and replies, "No, but I can help you, both of you."
During a Q&A at New York’s 92nd Street Y, Russo was asked whether working on Avengers: Doomsday had changed the way he views any particular moment from Endgame. His answer makes the new ending sound incredibly important.
"Well, I mean, you all just saw Endgame Encore, and there's certainly a pivotal moment in that film at the end, where the moment has a different meaning. You know, we sort of play one beat past where Steve Rogers' story ended with Peggy Carter, and in that moment, that's where Doomsday is born."
Russo didn’t explain exactly what Loki wants with Steve and Peggy, but the pieces are starting to fit together.
Another new post-credits scene takes place at the TVA and involves thousands of incursions, which points toward these events happening after Loki Season 2.
By that point, Loki has taken responsibility for holding the multiverse together, so his appearance at Steve and Peggy’s home raises some big questions about what has happened to their reality.
One possibility is that an incursion has put their universe in danger and Loki has come to get them out before things go bad. Whatever he tells them also appears to connect with footage from Avengers: Doomsday, where Steve is seen holding a TVA card featuring the Yggdrasil tree.
It certainly looks like Loki could be the person who gives Steve that card during this newly revealed encounter. Steve and Peggy’s meeting with Loki could play directly into the opening events of Avengers: Doomsday and explain how Steve gets pulled back into the multiversal chaos.
It’s kinda sad for Steve Rogers, who thought he had earned his happy ending. Then Loki just showed up at the front door to drag him back into a fight he was trying to get away from.
We’ll find out exactly what Loki needs from Steve and Peggy when Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18.
