Anya Taylor-Joy Teases Her Wild and Unsettling DUNE: PART THREE Character: “She Is One of a Kind”

Anya Taylor-Joy has finally opened up about her mysterious role as Alia Atreides in Dune: Part Three, and from the sound of it, this character isn’t just powerful… she’s something entirely different. After fans caught a brief glimpse of her in the trailer, Taylor-Joy is now sharing just enough info to fuel some excitement.

During a recent appearance on the Today Show, Taylor-Joy described who Alia is and what makes her such a fascinating presence in this universe.

"She is one of a kind. There's never been anybody like her. She's named 'the Abomination,' and a lot of people find her really creepy, except for her brother. She has absolute prescience.

“She lives with the voice of generations of people in her head; she's never in a singular conversation, and that can drive someone a little bit crazy."

That description paints a pretty intense picture. Alia Atreides is the younger sister of Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, and fans already know she’s one of the strangest and most dangerous figures in Frank Herbert’s lore.

In Dune: Part Two, Alia appeared through Paul’s visions and her eerie connection with Lady Jessica while still in the womb. But Dune: Part Three jumps forward in time, bringing us a fully grown version of the character, and that’s where things really start to get wild.

The film draws from Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah. Alia is born with the complete awareness and abilities of a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother. That kind of existence comes at a cost.

Other members of the Bene Gesserit see her as an “Abomination” because she’s never experienced life as a normal child. She’s always been something else entirely, carrying generations of memories and personalities inside her mind.

That inner chaos is a huge part of what makes her so interesting and a little unsettling. She isn’t just navigating the political chaos of Arrakis, she’s also dealing with a constant flood of voices in her head, which makes her unpredictable in ways no other character in the series really matches.

While Dune fans are gearing up for this darker, more complex chapter, Taylor-Joy has something much lighter on deck in the meantime. She’s returning as Princess Peach in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Dune Part: Three is set to hit theaters on December 18, and if Taylor-Joy’s comments are any indication, we’re about to meet one of the most unique and craziest characters the franchise has introduced yet.
