Apple TV’s WIDOW'S BAY Unleashes Creepy “Sea Hag” Teaser Trailer Starring Matthew Rhys

Apple TV is leaning into eerie coastal folklore with its latest teaser for Widow’s Bay, a horror comedy series arriving later this month. The new preview zeroes in on one of the town’s creepiest legends, offering a taste of the strange, darkly funny chaos that’s about to hit this isolated New England island.

Created by Katie Dippold, the mind behind Parks and Recreation and Mad TV, the series blends offbeat humor with unsettling horror elements. This new teaser leans harder into the spooky side, telling the tale of “The Sea Hag,” a nightmare figure said to haunt sailors who cross her waters.

The footage plays like a local ghost story brought to life, slowly building toward a payoff that hits with a sharp, twisted sense of humor.

Set 40 miles off the New England coast, Widow’s Bay centers on Tom Loftis, played by Matthew Rhys, a newly appointed mayor trying to drag his struggling town into the modern world.

The problem is, the town doesn’t want to change, and its residents are convinced the island is cursed. Loftis doesn’t buy into any of that. He just wants better infrastructure, more tourism, and a future for his son.

That uphill battle takes a strange turn when his plan actually works. Visitors start showing up. Money starts flowing in. Then the stories the locals have been warning about for years begin creeping into reality.

The show walks a tightrope between character-driven comedy and genuine horror, and it’s backed by an impressive lineup of filmmakers.

Hiro Murai, known for his work on Atlanta and Barry, directs and executive produces, while genre favorites like Ti West (X, Pearl, MaXXXine) and Andrew DeYoung also step in to direct episodes. That mix of voices gives the series a distinct tone that shifts between unsettling and absurd in a way that feels fresh.

The cast is just as solid, with Kate O'Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey rounding out the ensemble. They play the deeply skeptical, highly superstitious locals who see Loftis as completely out of his depth, and honestly, they might not be wrong.

This “Sea Hag” teaser gives a closer look at the island’s mythology and hinting at the kind of bizarre encounters waiting around every corner.

Widow’s Bay premieres on Apple TV on April 29, 2026.
