AQUAMAN is Said to Be "An Extraordinary Step" That Sets The DCEU "on the Right Path."
I have high hopes for Aquaman and I'm excited to see exactly what director James Wan delivers. I've seen some early footage from the film that has blown me away, but now the executives at Warner Bros. are sharing their thoughts on the film and they are ecstatic and confident about it!
EW recently spoke with a few executives over at Warner Bros. and as you'll see, they are pretty pumped up. I don't think they've ever shown so much excitement over a DC film before it was released. Wonder Woman turned out great, but before it hit theaters, the studio worried that it was going to bomb.
When talking about the upcoming film, Warner Bros. film chief Toby Emmerich said:
"James has done an incredible job with his team. The film is taking you to a different place and imagining the underwater world in a way you haven’t seen before."
One of the film's producers Peter Safran, says that the movie has "got the great action you expect, it’s got a lot of great humor, it works on so many levels … it’s a testament to James’ unique vision. I think it’s an extraordinary step in DC Universe that sets it on the right path."
Former DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns, who also worked on the script, explained:
"The underwater stuff has never been executed like this before. The visual effects shots coming in are just beautiful. James can switch modes from horror to big bright colorful action to really emotional scenes. He’s so able to hit all these different genres.”
This is all very exciting to hear and it's in line with everything that I've seen, now we just have to wait and see what the final product will be like. However, you can expect to see the seven undersea kingdoms, giant octopi and Atlanteans riding great white sharks into battle.
We'll know more about what we can expect when the first trailer is released, which is said to be happening very soon. The thing is, if the powers at be at DC and Warner Bros. are actually making statements about how good it is, it means they must have faith that James Wan delivered something special.
Jason Momoa will be joined by Willem Dafoe as Vulko; Temuera Morrison (Green Lantern) as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables films) as Nereus; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II(The Get Down) as Black Manta; Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Murk; with Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring films, Watchmen) as Orm/Ocean Master; and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna. Here's the synopsis:
Aquaman will center on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface.
Aquaman is set to be released December 21, 2018.
