ARCANE Showrunner Suggests Spinoffs Will Focus on Individual Characters from Series

Arcane showrunner and co-creator Christian Linke continues to talk about the future of the League of Legends animated universe, the projects that will spinoff of Arcane.

During a recent interview with The Direct, Linke suggests that the spinoff with feature "individual stories" of characters from the first two seasons Arcane. So, while there won’t be an Arcane Season 3, there is very much still interest in exploring some familiar faces in other projects.

When asked if a third season of Arcane was ever considered, Linke said: "Not season 3 so much, but individual stories of certain characters that are in Arcane, in both seasons.”

He added: "[There] definitely are like, 'Hey, let's continue their stories in their own kind of franchises and stories.' So definitely, Arcane is just the first. We want to continue telling stories."

It was recently teased that there are three projects currently in development with Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia as the “next steps into this cinematic universe.” There is also a project set in Runeterra.

However, it was clarified that it is actually one project that is potentially focusing on three regions in the universe and not three separate shows.

When talking about the early creative stages of post-Arcane projects, it was said that a movie could also be in the cards.

He said: "Yeah, they take time. What I said [in the Twitch interview] was we're exploring these regions – Noxus, Ionia – and we always focus on characters, you know?

"When we think about stories we are exploring, it's always about a specific champion or specific character – which I can't name yet, because there are several."

Linke continued: "But, yeah, it takes time – depending on if it's a series or a movie. We're exploring both in many, many directions.

“A lot of it comes down to finding the right people, the right vision, the right idea, the right story. That'll take years and once we have confidence that something's happening, we'll talk more about it."

While it’s going to be a long time before we see another animated project from Riot, it’s something that I’m looking forward to.
