ARGYLLE's Big Plot Will Be Kept a Surprise Until the Film's Release; Matthew Vaughn Has Two Sequels Planned
The trailer that has been released for Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming action spy comedy Argylle only features footage from the first 28 minutes of the movie. After that, the plot takes a big turn. According to Total Film, those major plot elements will be kept a surprise right up until the film is released.
Vaughn offered some additional insight into the film and his plan for the future of the franchise. He has two other movies ready to go and they will be based on the upcoming novels by fictional author Elly Conway, who is the main character in the film played by Bryce Dallas Howard.
It’s explained that while this first movie was his own meta-mischief take on the material, the sequels will be more closer to the books. The filmmaker said: "Book one is about: how did Argylle become a spy? That will be the next film. And then Argylle 2 is – I don’t want to give it all away, but there’s the young Argylle, and that becomes Henry, because Henry loves the idea of doing a proper Argylle movie as well."
Henry Cavill was then asked if he was up for returning to play Agent Argylle again, and he responded: "I think it’s a fun character. I mean, it depends on where we go with it, really, as with anything. I have a great relationship with Matthew, so that would be the hard part out of the way. The next bit is just building a story. As long as the story is good, and the character has a place to go, and it fits in with everything else that I’m trying to build and do, then great."
Vaughn goes on to talk about making original films like this saying: “Everybody complains there’s not enough original stuff, but it’s because they don’t go see it. People have got to buy tickets first, or there won’t be f–king anything."
He’s right. Hopefully, as filmmakers continue to make good original movies, people will go out and see them so we get to see more filmmakers get to try making new and different things.
In the film, “Bryce Dallas Howard is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.”
Accompanied by Aiden (Sam Rockwell), “a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.”
