Ashley Eckstein Says LEGO STAR WARS Finally Let Ahsoka Have Some Fun and Laugh

The galaxy far, far away keeps expanding on Disney+, and the latest addition for Star Wars fans is the four-part animated series LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past.

This new adventure brings back some major franchise veterans, including Ashley Eckstein, who has been the voice of Ahsoka Tano since the early days of The Clone Wars.

This marks Eckstein’s first time stepping back into the role since Rosario Dawson took over Ahsoka in live-action. And while the LEGO version of the character is a very different vibe from the battle-hardened warrior fans remember from Clone Wars, Eckstein was thrilled to bring her back.

She revealed that Dave Filoni once promised her she would “always be the voice of Ahsoka in animation,” making the call about Rebuild the Galaxy an emotional one.

Of course, this version of Ahsoka isn’t weighed down by Order 66 or years of galaxy-spanning conflict. When asked if LEGO Ahsoka finally gets to show a little more humor, Eckstein shared a fun behind-the-scenes story:

“That's actually a really great question, because I always wanted Ahsoka to laugh, and that was a constant conversation between me and Dave Filoni in the studio. I was like, 'Does Ahsoka get to laugh this episode?'

“Because I'm always laughing. And Dave would always [call] it my 'cuteness,' because I was always giggling and laughing. And before every episode, he'd say, 'All right, Snips.

“Ball up your cuteness and throw it out of the studio.' And I'm like, 'But why? When is Ahsoka gonna get to laugh?'“

That “cuteness” never really made it into The Clone Wars. By the time the animated series ended in 2020, Ahsoka had endured Order 66, left her “Snips” nickname behind, and appeared in Star Wars Rebels as a much more serious figure. But when it comes to LEGO, canon rules don’t exactly apply.

Eckstein teased that while fans might not see Ahsoka cracking jokes left and right, Rebuild the Galaxy still delivers plenty of laughs with a meaningful story at its core:

“I will say that this series does bring the laughs. I don't know if we're getting them through Ahsoka, but she has a really true to form to Ahsoka, a really inspiring storyline that will resonate with all of us.

“As I say, Ahsoka lives in all of us. Even though Ahsoka is in a galaxy far, far away, we all see ourselves in Ahsoka, and what she goes through in this series, I think we're all going to relate to.”

It’s clear Ahsoka remains close to Eckstein’s heart nearly two decades after she first voiced the character. Her words echo the same passion she’s carried since The Clone Wars, reminding fans why Ahsoka has become one of the most beloved figures in the Star Wars universe.

Alongside Eckstein, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past features an impressive lineup of returning talent. Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Dee Bradley Baker, Sam Witwer, and Kelly Marie Tran all lend their voices, along with main cast members Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things), Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: Homecoming), and Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live).
