Austin Butler Set to Star in Luca Guadagnino's AMERICAN PSYCHO Film Adaptation
Austin Butler is set to star in director Luca Guadagnino‘s new film adaptation Bret Easton novel American Psycho.
Bulter will take in the role of Patrick Bateman, who was preivously played by Christian Bale in the original film released in 2000. Jacob Elordi was being eyed to take on the role, but that obviously didn’t play out in his favor.
The script for the film comes from Scott Z. Burns, and it was previously explained that this “will not be a remake of the 2000 film, but a new adaptation of Ellis’ novel.”
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson previously said: “We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate. Luca is a brilliant artist, and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP.”
American Psycho is a satirical novel that follows Bateman, who is a wealthy and successful investment banker in 1980s Manhattan. Under his polished exterior, Bateman is a violent person with psychopathic tendencies, indulging in brutal acts of murder, torture, and sexual violence.
He lives a dual life as he navigates high society, obsessing over materialism, designer brands, and superficial relationships, while simultaneously engaging in heinous acts that seem to go unnoticed by those around him.
The Lionsgate film will be produced by Frenesy Films, and executive produced by Sam Pressman, the son of Edward R. Pressman, producer of the first adaptation, through his company Pressman Film.
Guadagnino is currently in post-production on After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts. He also directed the films Challengers, Suspiria, Bones and All.
What do you think about Butler taking on the role of Patrick Bateman in the movie? Maybe he’ll play the character with an Elvis accent.
