AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and SECRET WARS Rumor Teases That Kang May Still Shape the MCU’s Future

Marvel Studios may have shifted away from Kang the Conqueror as the central villain of the next Avengers saga, but a new rumor suggests the character’s impact on the MCU isn’t over yet.

After Marvel pivoted from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to Avengers: Doomsday, many fans assumed the studio was ready to move on entirely from Kang following Jonathan Majors’ firing.

Still, there’s been ongoing curiosity about whether Marvel would leave those dangling story threads unresolved after building so much of the Multiverse Saga around the character and his variants.

Now a new comment from insider Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus has sparked speculation that Kang’s influence may still loom large over the next two Avengers films, even if the character himself doesn’t physically appear.

During a recent Q&A discussing the upcoming movies, Perez was asked if there was anything he was especially excited to see that fans still don’t know about. His response was short, but it immediately caught people’s attention:

“Even though he’s not in either movie, He Who Remains won. And we’ll leave it at that.”

That statement opens the door to a lot of theories. For fans who followed Loki closely, He Who Remains was the Kang variant introduced in the Season 1 finale, played by Majors.

He explained to Loki and Sylvie that his death would trigger chaos across the multiverse and unleash countless dangerous Kang variants into existence.

Sylvie ignored the warning and killed him anyway, fracturing the Sacred Timeline in the process. By the end of Loki Season 2, Loki essentially sacrificed his own freedom to stabilize the multiverse and hold the timelines together himself, while the TVA shifted its focus toward monitoring Kang variants across reality.

Perez reportedly clarified that Majors himself won’t appear in either Avengers movie, which lines up with Marvel cutting ties with the actor after his legal troubles.

But if this rumor is accurate, Marvel may still be working toward some kind of conclusion to the Kang storyline that’s been unfolding since Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

That would make sense considering how much setup already exists in the MCU. Marvel introduced several major Kang variants over the course of the Multiverse Saga, including He Who Remains, Kang the Conqueror, Victor Timely, Immortus, Rama-Tut, and Centurion.

Then there was the massive Council of Kangs teased in the Quantumania post-credit scene, hinting at an even larger multiversal war on the horizon.

Originally, The Kang Dynasty was expected to bring all of that together before leading directly into Avengers: Secret Wars. Once Marvel reworked its plans and brought Doctor Doom into the spotlight instead, it left fans wondering whether all of those Kang threads would simply be abandoned.

If Perez’s tease means anything, Marvel may still be folding pieces of that original Kang arc into the new direction for Doomsday and Secret Wars. Maybe Kang’s actions already set irreversible events in motion.

Maybe Loki’s sacrifice wasn’t enough to stop the damage. Or maybe He Who Remains achieved exactly what he wanted all along. For now, though, this remains firmly in rumor territory, and Marvel Studios obviously hasen’t commented on any of it.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
