Steve Rogers May Lead AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, but SECRET WARS Could Shift the Spotlight
If you thought Steve Rogers was about to take center stage again across both upcoming Avengers films, it might not play out that way. New reports suggest a split focus between the next two massive chapters, with one leaning heavily on Captain America and the other handing the reins to a different set of heroes.
After stepping away from the role following Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans is officially back as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday. He kept fans guessing for a while, but now it’s clear Marvel isn’t done with him yet.
In fact, Rogers is going to have a major presence in Doomsday, possibly even leading the charge alongside Chris Hemsworth’s Thor against Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
There’s even talk that Doom’s story could involve some kind of revenge angle tied directly to Rogers, which would give their dynamic a personal edge. According to scooper MTTSH, Steve will “lead” Doomsday, but when it comes to Avengers: Secret Wars, things might look very different.
Instead of continuing to revolve around Rogers, the spotlight could shift to a new core lineup. Rumors are pointing toward Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine taking on much bigger roles in that story.
On top of that, there are reports that Downey Jr. could also return as Tony Stark in some form, potentially pulling double duty in the multiverse chaos.
So while Steve Rogers might help set the stage, he might not be the one closing the curtain. At the same time, Marvel is looking back as much as it’s looking forward.
The upcoming re-release of Endgame is getting an upgrade, and will include new footage designed to connect it directly to Doomsday. One of the biggest additions? A brand-new post-credits scene.
The plan, as rumored, is to use footage from Doomsday to expand on the final moment of Endgame, where Steve finally gets that long-awaited dance with Peggy.
This new stinger could revisit that peaceful ending and introduce a looming threat. There’s speculation that characters like Loki, Reed Richards, or even Doctor Doom might appear to warn Rogers about incoming incursions.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but the idea of revisiting Steve in that timeline as a bridge between sagas would make sense.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars is aiming for December 17, 2027.
