AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumor Teases an Unexpected Dynamic Between Yelena and Gambit

Of all the characters we could see hanging out in Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday, Yelena Belova and Gambit probably weren't on anyone's bingo card.

But according to a new rumor, these two fan-favorite characters could end up spending quite a bit of time together, and their personalities might make for some pretty entertaining moments.

Florence Pugh is returning as Yelena Belova, while Channing Tatum will reprise his role as Gambit. The upcoming Marvel movie will mark the first time these characters cross paths on screen, and it sounds like they could develop an amusing relationship.

During a recent Q&A with his Discord and Patreon members, The Cosmic Circus insider Alex Perez was asked about rumors that Gambit would be flirting with Yelena in the film.

Perez offered a slightly different take on their interactions, saying, “Gambit and Yelena will be in a number of scenes together, probably sarcastic banter rather than flirting.”

Yelena's dry humor and complete lack of patience for nonsense could make her the perfect person to trade insults with Gambit, especially considering his cocky attitude and thick Cajun accent.

It's easy to imagine Gambit trying to charm Yelena, only for her to shut him down with one of her signature sarcastic remarks. Pugh and Tatum are both great at comedy, so pairing them up could give Doomsday some genuinely funny character moments amid all the multiversal chaos.

Of course, this is still just a rumor, and Marvel Studios hasn't confirmed how much screen time the two characters will share.

Perez also shared another interesting detail about Doctor Doom and the characters who will potentially be fighting alongside him.

When asked about Namor's absence from promotional material and merchandise, and whether the underwater ruler would be part of Doom's army, Perez responded, “Namor is not a part of Team Doom in Doomsday.”

Tenoch Huerta Mejía made his MCU debut as Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever back in 2022. The character was introduced as the ancient mutant ruler of Talokan, a hidden underwater civilization inspired by Mesoamerican culture.

While fans have speculated about Namor's involvement in Doomsday, Marvel hasn't officially confirmed his return. If Perez's information is accurate, Namor won't be fighting alongside Doom, though that doesn't necessarily rule out an appearance.

As for Doom's rumored forces, the villain could have some serious power on his side. Reports have suggested his army may include the Latverian Witches, Scarlet Witch, an alternate version of Doctor Strange named Boris, Hulk, and an army of Doombots.

The story involves a multiversal collision that brings the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four into conflict before they're forced to unite against Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
