AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumors Tease Doctor Doom’s Dark Magic Powers and the Truth Behind His Tony Stark Look
New rumors tied to Avengers: Doomsday are starting to paint a much clearer picture of what Robert Downey Jr. might be bringing to the MCU as Doctor Doom. And if these reports are legit, Marvel fans should probably brace themselves. We’re talking magic, ancient artifacts, and a Doom who may be far more dangerous than anyone expected.
There have already been reports that Doom’s powers in Avengers: Doomsday would blend advanced science with sorcery. Now a new update suggests that the villain could be tapping into something deeply supernatural and potentially reality-breaking.
During a recent Cosmic Circus Q&A, insider Alex Perez was asked about hints connecting Doomsday to Marvel’s magic-heavy Disney+ series WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
He shared: "It mainly has to do with the concepts of magic that are explored in those shows. As much as this film is heavily based on the multiverse, time, and science, a good portion of it really goes into exploring the supernatural.
“The Darkhold, the runes, the way Agatha absorbs magic—it’s all relevant to something Doom does in Avengers: Doomsday. All I can tell you is to beware the man who carries the Word of God."
In Marvel Comics lore, the Word of God is an ancient spellbook packed with reality-warping incantations. Whoever wields it can reshape existence itself.
If Doom gets his hands on something like that in Doomsday, the Avengers won’t just be facing a genius in armor. They’ll be up against someone who can bend the rules of reality on a cosmic level.
The idea that Doom’s power set draws from the same mystical playbook as WandaVision and Agatha All Along also suggests that Marvel isn’t done exploring the fallout of the Darkhold and chaos magic. It may all be converging here, with Doom standing at the center of it.
Of course, there’s still the elephant in the room. Why does Doctor Doom look exactly like Tony Stark?
A popular fan theory has suggested that Downey’s Doom might actually be a tortured multiversal Iron Man variant, possibly twisted by Kang into believing he’s Victor Von Doom. Perez addressed that speculation directly when asked if there’s any truth to it:
"There is no truth to that theory. In the same way that Chris Evans can play two different characters in the MCU with the same face, so can Robert Downey Jr. play Victor Von Doom. And just like how now we have a main Johnny Storm with Joseph Quinn, I’m hearing we’ll eventually have another Victor Von Doom."
So according to that, Doom looking like Stark isn’t some elaborate in-universe trick. It may simply be Downey playing a completely different character, just like Chris Evans did when he went from Human Torch to Captain America.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Marvel will ignore the resemblance entirely. Previous reports have claimed Doom could use his Stark-like appearance to mess with the Avengers emotionally. Imagine facing your greatest fallen hero… only he’s now the one trying to rewrite reality. That’s a brutal psychological move.
But, we’ve also heard that none of the characters in the film will actually see Doom’s face in Doomsday.
If Marvel doesn’t address it in Avengers: Doomsday, there’s always Avengers: Secret Wars waiting in the wings. The multiverse saga still has room for some big identity reveals.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
