AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Set Photos Hint That Reshoots Are Already Underway and Point to a WWII Setting
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers traveled through time to return the Infinity Stones and Mjolnir to their proper places. Along the way, Captain America made the life-changing decision to stay in the past and finally live out a future with Peggy Carter.
When Steve reappeared as an old man in the present, it suggested he’d spent decades existing alongside his frozen, then later hero-version self.
That decision has always felt like a ticking time bomb, especially once Loki laid out the rules of branching timelines and multiversal consequences. Under those rules, Steve’s choice would’ve created an alternate reality, not a closed loop.
Rumors now point to that branching timeline playing a major role in Avengers: Doomsday, with Doctor Doom allegedly holding Cap responsible for an Incursion that wiped out his world.
While previous reports claimed Avengers: Doomsday reshoots were scheduled to begin in April, recent photos indicate production may have started early in London. No cast members were spotted, but crew wearing Avengers: Doomsday jackets were seen filming scenes staged in what appears to be World War II era London.
There’s no clear indication who these scenes involve or what exactly is being filmed. Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter immediately come to mind, but it could just as easily be an alternate reality sequence or even a quick establishing shot tied to the Multiverse storyline.
It’s also worth keeping expectations in check, as there’s a chance this could be for a completely different Marvel project, with crew members simply wearing jackets from a previous production. Still, the timing and the setting are hard to ignore.
The film is being directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, working from a script by Stephen McFeely, continuing their long-running collaboration on the Avengers and Captain America films. Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is also contributing to the screenplay.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently set to hit theaters on December 18, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
