AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Star Chris Hemsworth Teases Emotional Thor and Loki Reunion
With Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston both confirmed to return for Avengers: Doomsday, does that mean Thor and Loki are finally going to share the screen again?
Hemsworth isn’t giving anything away, but he is promising something that should get fans’ attention. According to him, this movie is going to hit hard.
The last time Thor and Loki stood side by side was at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. It didn’t end well as Thor was forced to watch as Thanos crushed Loki’s throat in one of the MCU’s most gut-punching moments. That version of the God of Mischief was gone for good.
But Marvel had other plans. A Loki variant broke free during the time heist in Avengers: Endgame, launching the Disney+ series Loki.
Over two seasons, Hiddleston’s trickster transformed from self-serving schemer into something far more complex. By the end, he sacrificed his own freedom to stabilize the multiverse, becoming the so-called God Loki and literally holding the timelines together as the Temporal Tree.
It was a wild evolution for the character and one that completely reframed who Loki is in the MCU.
So if Thor were to cross paths with this version of his brother, it wouldn’t just be a reunion. It would be layered with grief, shock, pride, and probably a lot of unresolved emotion. The Thor who lost his brother in Infinity War has no idea that a redeemed variant now exists.
While speaking with Variety, Hemsworth was asked directly if fans are going to cry when Thor and Loki reunite in Avengers: Doomsday. He kept things cryptic but teased the tone of what’s coming:
"It's a yes, no, maybe to that question... [the movie is] incredibly emotional, incredibly powerful... it's gonna blow you away this one. I don't know how they did it."
That’s not confirmation, but it’s enough to stir the imagination and conversation amoung fans.
Marvel Studios is clearly building toward something massive with Avengers: Doomsday, and with the Multiverse Saga in full swing, anything feels possible. A Thor and Loki reunion seems like low-hanging fruit in the best way. It’s emotional gold, and fans have been waiting years to see these two share a scene again.
Of course, there’s always the chance Marvel is saving that moment for Avengers: Secret Wars instead. If Doomsday is as powerful as Hemsworth says, though, we might not have to wait that long.
Either way, knowing Hemsworth is describing the film as “incredibly emotional” should prepare us for something big. Whether it’s a long-awaited reunion, a heartbreaking goodbye, or something completely unexpected, it sounds like Marvel isn’t going to pull any punches.
The movie is being directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, working from a script by Stephen McFeely, with Michael Waldron also contributing. Avengers: Doomsday is currently set to hit theaters on December 18, while Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
