AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Star Says His New Suit Presented a Learning Curve: "Oh, This Is Not the Same At All"

Last month, it was revealed by Marvel directors The Russo Brothers that many of the heroes we will see on the screen in Avengers: Doomsday will look a bit different, as they’ve been updated with some cool looking new suits.

But for at least one of the stars, the new look wasn’t without a learning curve. Simu Liu, who played Shaun/Shang-Chi in the 2021 film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, talked about his new suit in a recent interview with Empire State Building, where he explained:

"It's an incredible feeling, it was actually a brand new suit. So it's a completely different suit that fit on me very differently. I showed up to set, and I definitely was like, 'Oh yeah, I know how to do this,' and then I see the suit and the pieces and I'm like, 'Oh this is not the same at all,'" Liu admitted, making sure to praise Avengers: Doomsday's production team for their hard work.

"But it just goes to show things change, and it's really, really special just to be able to look at yourself in the mirror, and to be wearing something like that," he added. "It's an incredible feeling, and it will be an incredible ride when it comes out in theaters." I can’t wait!

The film’s star-studded cast includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, and Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor.

It also stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau/Gambit, and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

We are still waiting for more casting to be confirmed. Marvel Studios has officially wrapped production on the highly anticipated film, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with a release date set for December 18, 2026. The follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, is slated for December 17, 2027.
