BARBIE Will Be Available to Watch on IMAX Screens This Fall With Never-Before-Seen Post-Credits Footage
Just when you thought Barbie might be winding down at the box office, the movie is heading to IMAX theaters for another run. The release comes this fall, after a regular theatrical run that was kept out of IMAX theaters by director Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which was shot with IMAX cameras, and had exclusive rights to the big screens when it opened on July 21st, the same day as Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar smash hit, Barbie.
In addition to experiencing the film for the first time in IMAX, audiences will be treated to exclusive post-credits footage selected by Gerwig. The director hasn’t said yet what the post-credits scene(s) will include, but there’s a chance it might be the previously mentioned scrapped scene in which Midge, the pregnant Barbie, goes into labor. We will just have to wait and see.
Gerwig said of the IMAX release:
”The worldwide enthusiasm for Barbie has been overwhelming, humbling and deeply moving. So many Barbie fans went on this journey with us, and we can’t thank them enough for supporting the film and sharing their Barbie experience in theaters, across social media and out in the world. We made Barbie for the big screen, so it’s a thrill to be able to bring it to Imax, the biggest screen of all. And as a special thanks to Barbie fans, we’re excited to share a little bit more of our cast and crew’s incredible work by adding special new footage we hope audiences will enjoy.”
I’ve already seen the movie a few times, but if I was invited to go back and check out the new footage, I’d be up for it. I love Barbie, and have enjoyed noticing new things with each viewing. Barbie will be available to watch in IMAX on September 22nd.
