BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL PART 1 Official Trailer Unleashes the Brutal Rated ‘R’ Animated Trilogy
Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC are about to deliver one of Batman’s most brutal animated stories yet. The first trailer for Batman: Knightfall Part 1 has arrived, giving fans their first look at the opening chapter of an ambitious three-film adaptation of the legendary Knightfall comic book storyline.
The first movie is set to hit Digital on August 25, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD releases following on September 8. It also carries an R rating for "strong bloody violence," making it one of the most intense animated Batman projects DC has produced.
The story drops Gotham into complete chaos after Arkham Asylum is destroyed, unleashing its entire population of dangerous inmates onto the streets.
Batman suddenly finds himself battling some of his greatest villains all at once, pushing himself far beyond his limits as he desperately tries to restore order. But while he's fighting fires across Gotham, an even bigger threat is waiting in the shadows. That threat is Bane.
The film adapts the iconic early 1990s Batman: Knightfall comic event, telling the story that forever changed the Dark Knight. Fans already know where this road leads. Bane doesn't simply want to defeat Batman. He wants to break him.
The official synopsis teases exactly what's ahead: "Arkham Asylum has been destroyed, and all its inmates have been unleashed upon Gotham City. As Batman races to round up some of his greatest enemies, he is pushed to his physical and mental limits and into a final confrontation with a new threat: the man called Bane."
It also reminds fans what this adaptation is building toward: "Based on the iconic DC comic book event, Knightfall tells the story of the breaking of the Bat."
The voice cast brings together an impressive lineup, with Anson Mount starring as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Michael Mando taking on the role of Bane, and Pablo Schreiber voicing Jean-Paul Valley, better known as Azrael.
The film is directed by Jeff Wamester from a screenplay written by Jeremy Adams, and serves as the opening chapter in the Knightfall Trilogy, which adapts one of Batman's most celebrated comic book arcs.
The trailer seems to deliver exactly what fans want to see. Gotham feels dangerous, Bane looks absolutely intimidating, and the action has a much harder edge thanks to the film's R rating. I hope DC sticks the landing across all three installments.
Batman: Knightfall Part 1 arrives on Digital on August 25, followed by its 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on September 8.
