Ben Mendelsohn Talks About Orson Krennic's Role in ANDOR Season 2
Ben Mendelsohn is reprising his role as the villainous Orson Krennic in Andor Season 2, and it will be great to see this character in action again.
Krennic is an interesting villain as is kind of a middle-man in the Empire who is overseeing the completion of the Death Star. Mendelsohn was great in bringing this character to life, and I loved how sleazy he was and how he saw himself as more than what he really was.
During a recent interview with Empire, Mendelsohn talked about his role in the series and how he’ll have more competition to face, including Denise Gough’s ultra-ambitious Dedra Meero.
He talked about the pair dynamic saying: “If they didn’t see eye to eye, to me, it’s cute. Dedra versus Krennic? I think it’s a bit of a mismatch. They’re all underlings to Krennic. They’re all going in one direction. The Empire, if you speak your mind, there are differences of opinion.”
As for if the series will also see the return of Tarkin, the original Star Wars villain who was played by the late Peter Cushing, who took all the credit for the Death Star in Rogue One, Mendelsohn said:
“You know I can’t answer that, and I delight in not being able to answer your question. It’s a beautiful thing.”
The second season will conclude the series and take us through the years of Cassian Andor's journey as a spy for The Rebellion and how he tracked down the secret of The Death Star's construction.
Creator Tony Gilroy explained how the story will play out in the final season of the series saying: “When we come back later, it’ll be literally like a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And then, we’ll jump a year, and then it’ll be, like, four or five days, and then we’ll jump a year, and then there’ll be another four or five days, and then we jump a year, and be another four or five days.”
He also talked about the Imperial side of things, saying: "Then think about it from the Imperial side and they are getting very, very close to a very important energy project. People may have heard of it. It's an energy project.
“I guess that's not a surprise, but I think you'll see the wear and tear, you'll see all the stresses, all the heartbreak, and all the triumph of the 20 or 30 people that we're carrying forward, with Cassian at the center.
“You'll see those people stumble forward into a very complicated bit of chaos and history that we will pay attention to.”
Andor Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on April 22, 2025.
