Benedict Cumberbatch to Play Doctor Strange in Marvel's SPIDER-MAN 3
The third Spider-Man film that is being developed by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures just got a hell of a lot more interesting. Benedict Cumberbatch is going to be reprising his role as Doctor Strange in the film!
According to the report, Cumberbatch will shoot Spider-Man 3 before he jumps into making Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which Sam Raimi is set to direct.
The idea behind Cumberbatch coming into the story is so that he can be Peter Parker’s new mentor. Tony Stark served as Parker’s mentor in the MCU, but now that he’s gone, Parker will be looking for some direction and advice from someone, especially with the situation he’s found himself in as a wanted man.
I think it’s safe to assume that the events of Spider-Man 3 will lead to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will also appear in that movie. If Marvel and Sony don’t strike another deal, that could be the last time we see Spider-Man in the MCU.
It seems clear to me that bringing Doctor Strange into the mix will play a big role in the Spider-Man multiverse and using that as a way to transition the character out of the MCU and into the Spider-Verse that Sony is building.
Fans knew that we would see Parker get a new mentor in Spider-Man 3, and I think that Doctor Strange is a great choice. It will be fun and interesting to see how the character ends up being utilized in the story.
Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori, and Jacob Batalon are expected to reprise their roles, and Jamie Foxx will also be back in the role of the villainous Electro from the previously made The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Jon Watts is returning to helm the sequel, and the movie is currently set to be released on December 17th, 2021.
