Benedict Wong Says He Hopes His Sorcerer Supreme Goes Up Against Doctor Doom in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY
Ever since it was announced that we were getting another epic two-movie Avengers multiversal adventure from the Russo Brothers that included a return of Robert Downey Jr. as the villainous Doctor Doom, rumors have been flying, and everyone is wondering who all will get to be involved. This includes speculation even from members of the MCU.
During a recent interview, Benedict Wong, who has played the character Wong across the Doctor Strange films, as well as the last Avengers battle tentpoles, expressed to Comic Book Movie (via SuperHeroHype) his hopes for Wong’s future.
When asked about his possible involvement in the next two Avengers films, Wong said:
“Hey, well, look, I’m all for it. I’m ready! With Wong, he’s been promoted to Sorcerer Supreme so it’s all in the hands of the Marvel Universe to see where we go with it. Yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”
Wong’s character, who shares his name, was titled the Sorcerer Supreme following the events of Avengers: Infinity War. He deservedly replaced Dr. Stephen Strange after the latter was unexpectedly killed in the snap. Despite Strange’s subsequent return, Wong held on to his newfound role and is expected to retain it in Avengers: Doomsday.
Another future MCU project that should feature Benedict Wong is the unconfirmed Doctor Strange 3. According to recent reports, Sam Raimi is currently in contention to return to helm the third movie. But we are still awaiting official confirmation from Marvel Studios.
Avengers: Doomsday is presently scheduled to hit theatres in May of 2026.
